Hi all,

I am currently in my final year of Meng in Chemical engineering and working on my design project entitled, "Coal Gasification". I am carrying out the detailed design of the CO shift reactors and interstage cooling through HP steam generation.

I have spent many weeks researching and developing a detailed MATLAB computer model to size the reactors. Since it is a Sour shift, sulphur tolerant shift catalyst is to be used in the design based on Co/Mo.

In the absence of any kinetic data for such catalysts, I assumed the kinetics of HT shift catlayst so as i could develop my model. Does anyone know of kinetic expressions for sour shift catalysts and if not, does anyone know how comparable their kientics are to those of HT shift catalyst?

Is it appropriate to assume HT shift kientics for the sour shift catalyst, or is there some sort of factor I could include in the HT shift rate expression to take into account the relative activity of sulphur tolerant catalyst?

If anyone could provide some assistance I would be truely greatful. Jon Eptas

You will be able to get reaction kinetics from both of these sources below

1. Rase, Howard Frederick Chemical reactor design for process plants vol 2 / Howard F. Rase ; original illus . - New York; London : Wiley, 1977 . - 0471018910
2. James. M Moe "Design of water-gas shift reactors" (1962) Chemical Engineering Progress Vol 58 No 3 Pages 33-36

I have studied these, along with many other texts, in great detail. I am aware they provide reaction kinetics for HT shift catalysts, however I require kinetics for sulphur tolerant Co/Mo based shift cataylsts.
