Dear Forum,

I'am currently working on my honours year design project - Production of 250 tonnes per day of propylene glycol. The method chosen is the hydrolysis of propylene oxide. I have been assigned to complete the chemical and mechanical engineerign design of the reactor involved within the process. The chemical engineering design has been completed with the following results using hysys and hand calculations and agree favourably:
The reactor is an isothermal CSTR and the reactions are exothermic. The reactor is kept at 125oC using cooling water.

Volume:21.5324 m3
Diameter: 2.634m
Height: 3.951m

The next stage is the mechanical engineering design of the CSTR. I was wondering if any members know which path to follow with regards to calculations? Or if they know any good books/material to use for the mechanical engineering design.

Any input would be highly appreciated.
Regards ChemEngStudent1
