Can somebody help me calculating area required for a Pig Launcher/Receiver for 30" pipeline. The area should include a metering facility as well. Thank you

any helps are greatly appreciated.
thanks

Bernath:
This is an old thread and it was in the wrong Forum (Simulation). I have moved it here to Industrial, where it is better suited.
I consider this a very important subject and one that is not well understood by process engineers. It is a subject that is full of "bear traps" and potential hazards and should be studied and learned in detail. I have given seminars on the Process Design, Specification, and Operation of Pig Receivers and Launchers and I may be able to help you. However, tell us what SPECIFICALLY you are to design: the process or the mechanical fabrication? Give us ALL of the basic data; otherwise I can't guess what is on your mind or what is your need. Do not give general or vague descriptions or information. I will put the same amount of effort into this subject that you do.
Await your reply.

Dear Art,
Thank you for the reply.
Actually, I'm not in an urgent need to design a pig launcher/receiver. It's just out of my curiosity. I just feel that this thing is quite important in oil & gas field and perhaps someday in the future I will be asked to design it. Therefore, its better if I make my self be able to design it.
I will prefer if you give me the information about process design and specification such as to determine the basic dimension, basic design equation, pressure drop (perhaps??), safety aspect as well as the information to perform the detail engineering.
What is the best reference or book to design the pig launcher/receiver?
thanks Art
