I knew we would reach 100 posts in this thread at some point...

And for all those freebie hunters roaming the Internet and this forum, once more:

Go up to post #58 or to post #81 and download the copy that is offered there!!!!

No need to ask for a copy in this thread!!!

Sean:

I appreciate your request and would repeat what has been given in a couple of prior posts:

Go to Posts # 81 or #58 and you will find the downloadable Excel WorkBook on Post #58. Post #81 was "invented" to make life easier for those who don't read the entire thread or are confused. The WorkBook is found on Post #58.

Not wishing to cause offence... but can we consider stopping the practice of inviting people to submit their emails in order to receive a file.
This particular thread was one of the best I have read, but it has sadly been hijacked.

I will open another thread and hope the contributors will continue. Thanks

Dear Art,

Since i'm a newbie here, let me introduce myself.
I am a process engineer who currently working in an EPC company. In current project, i have to design correct breather valve (PVRV or PV vent, some might say).
I have also downloaded your spreadsheet, and it's very great, really helps me understanding the cases (some of them i haven't heard before) which must be considered during venting.

I have a question, does API2000 works with floating roof storage tanks?
In my opinion, the only case which must be considered is thermal. Liquid movement (as per API2000) is not needed to be calculated since the roof will float and sink based on actual liquid level.

Therefore, the tank is a large one (much larger than 180,000 barrels as per API2000) and i actually don't know how to calculate the thermal venting requirement. However, if i assume that solar radiation applies to whole body of the tank (entire roof and shell), the venting requirement would be too great for even 4 breather valves working together. Do you have any suggestion how to calculate the correct requirement? The tank's MAWP / MAWV is limited to 47 mmH2O, as per API650 standard.

Also, is there any connection between sizing breather valve for floating roof and API MPMS Chapter 19.2 (Evaporative Loss From Floating Roof Tanks)?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Mr Montemayor,

i am a process engineer, working with small company in Malaysia which is doing the relief device evaluations. Currently i am doing the low pressure tank evaluation and i refer to your document as my reference.

i already upload your spreadsheet, it very helpful for me but i have a question on Pressure Transfer Blow-through - from Tank Relief Philosophy word document, quote below:

"Pressure Transfer Blow-through
a) For tanks that are not expected to be unloaded into, the vapor rate is the flow capacity of two (2) 1” by 20 foot utility hoses with a pressure drop of the maximum nitrogen header gauge pressure. One 1” (3/4” ID) by 20’ utility hose can pass 18,825 SCFH of nitrogen."

1. How do you come out with this value :- 18,825 of nitrogen.?

Highly appreciate if you can give me detail explanation or how to get value.

Thank You.

Does anyone know how to size a Vacuum/Relief valve on a storage tank? I looked into API Standard 2000 (appendix C), but that only says that "The size of a vent valve is based on the venting device's tank connection". API RP 520/521 only deal about Pressure Relief Valves...

Determine venting requirements per API STD 2000, EN 14015, or ISO 28300. Contact vendors like EMBA or Tru Valves with that data.
