I posted a question some time back about the use of explosion vent panels.

I received no replies so I went away and tried to do some research. I still have the problem but its now somewhat refined so I thiought it was worth posting again for the benefit of all readers.

I am designing a sugar storage system and need to provide for the risk of explosion. I am assuming standards such as API 520/521 are not applicable for this scenario (I could be wrong) - can anyone give me any guidance as to how to design an explosion over-pressure system.

Thanks in advance

Check out the NFPA standards, including:

NFPA 68 Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting
NFPA® 69 Standard on Explosion Prevention Systems
NFPA® 61 Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Dust Explosions in Agricultural and Food Processing Facilities
NFPA 654 Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids
