Hi there, basically propylene glycol is produced by the hydration process with propylene oxide. About 85% of the product is Monopropylene Glycol, 11% is Dipropylene Glycol, 1.5% is Tripropylene glycol and the rest is other products.
The problem right now is that, how to include these side reactions in my hysys? And anyone know what is the balance chemical equation to get DPG and TPG? I just know C3H60 + H20 --> C3H8O2. Note that i just want MPG. Can anyone help me? Tq

Dear,
If I am not wrong its same as EO to MEG/DEG/TEG. In your case PO+Water to Mono PG and PO + Mono PG = DiPG and DiPG + PG = TriPG. If you need all of the MonoPG you need excess water i.e. there should not be any unreacted PG to react with glycol to form its nex higher oligomer. I hope this is helpful.
