Can the product stream coming out of a reactor be described as 'the reactor effluent' ? Or is that technically incorrect ? unsure.gif

'Effluent' in chemical engineering often refers to discharged liquors, whereas civil engineering defines it as liquid waste of sewage and industrial processing. Having worked in a water treatment plant myself, effluent simply is the final treated water which in this case was my product. If you're talking about closed reactors in a continuous process, the product stream is the effluent. Just make sure you don't use it for batch processes. Good luck.

Petroleum refineries generally have a good many reactors. In that industry, it is quite common usage to call a reactor's outlet stream the "reactor effluent".
