we have been requested to study the feasibility of Nitrogen stripping of crude oil 10000 bbl/day (~14 to 24 api) to reduce overall Sulphur (essentially in the form of H2S) from 0.5% to ,40 ppm (wt%);
the client has an extended well testing unit where roughly 3000 bbl/day of oil is handled with 99% N2;
the information on the oil is sketchy and the unit is expected to be generic;

i have done a blackoil modelling using Hysys and then using sour srk have tried to run a simple absorber column; however the unit is not converging easily and any changes in feed conditions is making a simple absorber column not converging; ( i am using 4~6 theoretical stages and 4~6 scf/bbl of nitrogen)

i have hands on experience where fuel gas (in place of nitrogen) has been bubbled through the oil in intermediate tanks to remove some quantum of h2s;

i would like to have considered opinions of other senior people to confrim first the possibility and feasibility of such an operation (using nitrogen) and the correct guidelines for a successful simulation

I was looking for this subject and found you did not have any replies. Can you tell me how did it go with this project ? We have been asked to evaluate the possibility of removing H2S from an oil by using some of their already sweetened gas.

I would greatly appreciate if you share your experience on the subject.

Regards,

If you still need help, is it possible to post the hysys file? I'm pretty conversant with hysys and might be able to help. Your original test.pdf is not too helpful in understanding why it does not converge.

Did you make any progress or reach a conclusion.  I too am looking at a requirement of stripping H2S from crude with nitrogen in a column with reboiler.  I would be very interested if you found a process package vendor with relevant experience or know of an engineering company with proven experience with installed and operating stripper units running with nitrogen.  I believe there are some crude stripper units running with natural gas in Iran.
