Dears,

If we have gasoline storage tank farm that receive its feed from the refinery and it feeds loading bays. Is the operation of a single tank in the farm continuous or not? Because we have a problem such that there are two sets of pumps that receive the gasoline. One pump set is working fine even with low liquid level. The others have high NPSHR and they have been installed along with their piping that connects them to the tanks. So now we have to have a high liquid level in the tanks to provide good NPSHA for those pumps and this is not practical and make the large volume of the storage tanks is useless. So, if it is continuous we can use a vertical baffle inside the tanks to split it into two each serves one pump set. What do you think?

Vegeta,

This depends on the controls used in the process, which for anyone here to assess would require you providing us with a P&ID.

Your pump could be controlled in an "on/off" manner with respect to the fluid level in the tanks with respect to low and high level switches sending alarms /  electrical signals to your pumps to turn on and off.

If could also be that it functions via variable level, or even with no PLC input at all.

This is kind of like you asking me whether my coat stays done up through the use of Buttons or a Zipper. Doesn't matter if you can easily distinguish between the two, you have no idea of knowing how my coat is configured.
