Let me quote "we use packed bed in VDU to have less pressure drop"

But why do we need less pressure drop?
What would happen if the Pressure drop is high?

High pressure drop between the feed entry and overhead vacuum system will effectively increase the flash zone pressure, hence reducing recovery of Vacuum Gas Oil and increasing the yield of Vacuum Residue.
