Hi Everybody!

Now I'm facing a problem that I can't find the answer. By the chance, I searched and found this helpful website and I hope some nice expert can help me.

I work as gas turbine & compressor operator on the offshore platform.

We have 5 units, 1 of these units work not as our desire, which often suffered  in surge problem especially in hot days.

My leader guessed the main reason is the density of air affects the turbine performance(Pcd, NGP, NPT decrease) and finally the centrifugal compressor has poor performance and surge.

But when I compared between 2 units and collected operating data as below.

Unit 1: Engine Performance  (Control Mode: NGP, NGP: 103%, NPT: 97%,  T1 : 25 oC, T5 average: 722oC, Pcd: 14,7 (Compressor being carried out overhaul on 26.03.2010)

Unit 2: Engine Performance  (Control Mode: T5 max(738oC), NGP: 102%, NPT: 95%, T1 : 27 oC,, T5 average: 738oC, Pcd: 14.6 (Compressor being carried out overhaul on 23.03.2011)

Reffed to above data, Unit 1 is stronger than unit 2 but why unit 2 works without surging problem.

Can anyone give me helpful idea? Please help...
