I am replacing a large, insulated atmospheric storage tank with an uninsulated tank rated at a higher pressure (normal boiling point of the amine is near ambient temperature). The decision was made to omit insulation because the previous tank suffered from severe CUI. In looking at the thermal outbreathing rates using API 2000 (and some more detailed hand calculations), it appears that we will vent more than our existing vent skid (liquid ring compressor) can handle.

I've considered installing a roof-mounted, chilled-water, vent condenser to remove the condensables (Graham and Alfa Laval make handy ones) but that will not be enough. Does anyone have experience with cooling the vapor space of a storage tank? We have a circulation loop on the tank that goes through a chiller. I was thinking of using this loop and installing some spray nozzles in the top of the tank to cool just the vapor, reducing the thermal outbreathing. I could see potential static buildup issues arising from this, though.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
