How far away should temperature sensor be installed after mixing of cold and warm vapor of ethane? The control system functions to maintain warm temperature.

Is there any standard which could be referenced for locating sensors?

Manmohan:

It all depends on how effectively - or efficiently - you mix the two streams. The more effective and efficient the mixing, the closer you can approach the final mixture point in detecting an accurate temperature.

There is a trade-off in achieving efficiency: a pressure drop increase. There are proprietary in-line mixers with a minimum of pressure drop that can yield a reasonably accurate final temperature within 6 inches of the mixer's outlet port.

There is no standard - to my knowldege - in establishing in-line or other types of mixers; nor are there standards for locating the final temperature sensing device.
