Hi.

As per my process, i want to distill pinanol from my rxn mass. In laboratory, i generally do with 0.5 Torr vacuum and hot oil temp 120°C provided a hot water utility of temp 50°C in condensor. Here generally i use two condensor i.e one exactly above the RBF (round bottom flask) and another one linked with this condensor with joint and to collect in receiver. here i would like to bring in your notice that in my rxn miture thier is product having high boiling point and pinanol which i want to remove. To remove this pinanol i am using hotwater utility in both condensor.

Please suggest what important precaution should i consider to have 0.5 Torr vacuum in 100 Lt SS Reactor. Is it possible to have desire vacuum in plant?

Regards

To Anne India,
Sir,
It is possible to obtain 0.5 Torr vacuum in the plant without fall in vacuum level by using once thru lubrication (OTL) vacuum pump now being manufactured by Patkar Vacuulab,Mira Industrial estate,Thane.Contact:- patkarvacuulab@vsnl.net Precaution:- Check the leakage rate of your distillation plant. It should not be more than 5 mmHg per hr. other wise you need high capacity vacuum pump.--bmkhare

Are you looking for vaccum system design or pump availability? Your question is not very clear.
However when you define the capacity of a vaccum pump you need to consider the entire system in question.
I feel that you should take help of any chemical process engineer.
