Hello Everyone,
I am a postgraduate student at Newcastle University working on developing a decision-making aid for chemical professionals.
So far I have researched the typical methodologies used in operational research and other MCDA (Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis) literature.
I have come to a cross roads in my research and it is now time to ask potential users what they require from a decision making aid.

I would VERY much appreciate it if you could spare 10minutes to complete the following questionnaire: http://www.hodgett.co.uk/research/

Also, I would like to open a discussion here to see what your views are on the following areas:

• Problem structuring – How do you make your decisions? Do you use any pen and paper based techniques or software?
• Types of decisions - Are your problems mainly quantitative (selecting operational values, flow rates..etc..) or quantitative (selecting personnel, machinery etc)?
• Shareholder Analysis –Do you have to consider other people’s views during decision making?
• Time frame – How long would you spend on a typical decision problem?

Many thanks, Richard

Richard,

You had posted a very identical post on January 27, 2010 and where you had asked to fill up the same questionaire. Here is the link:

http://www.cheresour...h__1#entry35847

Why is it that you have to repeat the post? Why does your questionaire require personal details such as "company", "Email" etc.?

How is your post related to chemical engineering? This forum is for chemical engineers and I find no relevance of your questionaire to chemical engineering.

The questionaire seems like a psychological assessment normally used as a recruitment tool for senior professionals in any organization, not necessarily any chemical product company.

Please explain your intentions for using this forum as a springboard for your PhD project? What was your graduation / post-graduation discipline? If you are not a chemical engineering major then you are on the wrong forum.

Please answer the above questions for us to understand why your questionaire needs to be filled up.

Regards,
Ankur.

Ankur,

I am sorry you feel troubled by my post. I will answer your questions in order:

Why is it that you have to repeat the post? Why does your questionaire require personal details such as "company", "Email" etc.?

This is the second and final questionnaire, the one I posted before was a more generalised questionnaire to try and find an overall consensus for basic research questions. This second questionnaire is more detailed and homes in on specific problems I am having with my research, namely structuring decision problems and choosing an appropriate MCDA method for decision selection.
I ask for personal details so I can verify the respondent works for a chemical engineering company and for potential follow up questions assuming the user allows this (there is a tick box to select this).

My research is to develop a decision-making aid specifically for the chemical industry. I am working in the department of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials at Newcastle University (UK). I posted in this forum to target the responses of chemical professionals only.

Does this answer your questions?
