Hi everybody!
I have a question about de use of some parameter of cyclone.xls spreadsheet.
When I want to calculate the dimensions of the cyclone, there are some parameters that are used depending on the type of cyclone ( Stairmand , Swift , Peterson - Whitby ) linking all equipment dimensions with the inlet diameter of the cyclone. It is correct to use these parameters to calculate a cyclone for separating sand from gas operating at high pressure (100 bar) ?
Another question: The inlet area is calculated from a suggested speed of 15 to 30 m/s. (50/100 f/s on the spredsheet). If you applied this recommended speed, small diameter are obtained. Do you knows if this recommendation is valid for high operation pressure (100bar)?
Thanks!!!!

Never attempt to design such equipment. Give conditions to the manufacturer and let them provide a properly designed unit.

Thanks Bobby,
Unfortunately is exactly want we want to do. We are a company that manufacture equipment for oil and gas industry (separators, piping on skid, vessels, manifolds, etc). Now, there“s an Oil company that decide to give us the opportunity to build a solid-gas cyclone separator to make an experimental test on a non-conventional well.
Thanks again.

Good luck. Sometimes there are opportunities that we should refer to others. I have been in the same position as yourself. Our company leaders sometimes make promises that we can't deliver.

Might be a good idea for your company to invest in some CFD software. I have seen many manufacturers of cyclones display their CFD results on sales talks.
