I am looking for information on noise requirements for elevated flares. I am aware that noise can be a big issue in flare design, but can't find any specific noise requirements that flares need to comply with. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thank you!

areads,

Maximum acceptable noise level for any continuously noise generating equipment is 85 dBA considering human health hazard.

For elevated flares the distance and location beyond which noise level of 85 dBA should not be exceeded is defined by API STD 537 as follows:

Unless otherwise specified, noise at the base of the flare is defined at a point 1.5m (5 ft) above grade and 10% of the flare stack height distance from the flare stack centerline.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.
