Hello,
while studying the centrifugal pump curve I came across a term 'shutoff head',can somebody please explain in detail what exactly does shutoff head mean?

Shutoff head is the head developed by the centrifugal pump when there is no flow. So if you have the pump curve and look at the head developed at zero flow, that's the shutoff head of your pump.

in more practical way if u start centrifugal pump and close the discharge valve. u will get the maximum
value of pressure on discharge gauge. this pressure divided by density*gravitational constat g gives u
shut off head.
