Hi

I am sizing PRV for fire case what is the formula to calculate wetted area of pipeline. All i found the formulas of wetted area calcuation for vessels.

Thanks

Adil,

Pipes generally run full in single phase liquid flow when pumped. Even when encountering multi-phase flow the flow is generally never stratified with the most common flow patterns being annular, bubble and wave flow. Vessels on the other end are never operated completely filled. Hence the concept of wetted area applies to vessels only and not pipes. Pipe wetted area is thus the total surface area of the pipe

For any pipe the surface area is:

SA = pi*D*L

where:

SA = surface area,

D = Outside Diameter of the pipe

L = length of the pipe exposed

Regards,

Ankur

 Vessels on the other end are never operated completely filled.

Ankur,

Allow me to make a correction on above statement:

There are many cases in which the vessels are operated completely full of liquid and are subject to be engulfed in a pool fire....
