Hi everyone,

I am looking to heat a product stream that contains less than 1% HCl (max temperature at 200 F). I was recommened 316 ss, but over the course of one month 3.7% HCl caused severe leaking in 316 ball valves. Stainless is out!

Can anyone suggest a compatible tube material for my application?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have not had experience with graphite exchangers, but you could also consider titanium as a material of construction. Whilst the material is expensive, if you opt for a plate/frame heat exchanger, you may find that the costs are economically feasible. What material are you using for the pipes?

Regards
Raoul
