Dear All:

Can someone help me identify what type of software is available for flare evaluation? (Hydraulics, radiation, etc)

 

I´ve worked with SIMSCI Visual Flow but would like to explore other alternatives.

short list of most used commercially available software packages

 

HYDRAULICS  : steady state   Aspen Flare System analyser ( Flarenet) will both rate and design a new system for you .
                                                Unisim Flare ( virtually the same, ), Aspen Plus, Chemcad Safety, VMG

                          dynamic         Aspen Hysys and Unisim Design , VMG,

RaDIATION & Dispersion         FLARESIM, Phast,

There are several other packages that do "bits" of the design /rating but the ones above are the most widely used in the industry

No doubt other users will add one or two i have missed out .

there are many alternatives depending from the problem you need to solve,

hydraulics
a1) without change of phase, for example gas to flare, a software capable to evaluate pressure drop (and critical flow condition) can do the work (perhaps you already own one).

a2) with change of phase, you need a software with VLE and rigorous evaluation of critical condition, a simulator (as SIMSCI or those mentioned by Flarenuf) or a process library can do the work (I use Prode Properties which includes rigorous methods for  single and multiphase flow / critical conditions).

Radiation, design
b1) quick evaluation of thermal radiation, noise levels, design according APi 521, ISO etc. there are many (free) resources as Excel pages available, google can help.
 
b2) complete and integrated evaluation including design, isopleths etc. see the products mentioned by Flarenuf (there are many others but selection would require additional data about your applications)
