Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this forum.

Can anyone explain to me how infill drilling help to speed up oil recovery from the reservoir?

Also, are there any petroleum engineers with experience in conducting decline forecasts on oil reserves? I have an interview coming up and would like to know what simulation program most companies are using for these assessments. Other than decline forecasts, what other tasks do petroleum engineers do on a daily basis?

I would really appreciate if anyone can give me an insight these subject of interests. Thank you for your help!

More wells, quicker recovery.

Leonie:

As Bobby infers, it is obvious that the more “holes” you punch into the reservoir, the faster you can extract what is there.

The great majority of our Forum members are Chemical - and not Petroleum or Geological - engineers.  Above ground, there are two classifications for the oil & gas industry: Upstream and Downstream.  The point of reference is the conventional oil refinery.  Upstream is the process system between the wellhead and the refinery gate.  We get involved with both Up- and Downstream processes, but we are totally in the dark when it comes to “downhole” technology” and processes - everything that takes place between the wellhead and the hydrocarbon reservoir below the earth.  This is an arcane area dominated by Petroleum engineers and Geologists.  I’ve participated in a lot of oil patch projects, but downhole technology is foreign to me.  I do know, from many sources, that fluid flow through porous media, geological faults, deposits, soundings, guessing, -- and luck -- are some ingredients of the science used.

Perhaps if you consult with a Pet. E forum, you might get a detailed response to your queries.

Thank you for the clarification Art! I hope I'll have a chance to learn from you if I ever work on subjects in your area of expertise!
