Dear friends

i have question  about noise level of psv

in our project vendor give us the data sheet of PSVs ,

Noise level of psvs are more than 120

One psv noise level is 135  and other is 138 in 1 meter

my question is :

1- this noise are above the 120@1m and they propose to increase the height of the psv 2 meter more than existing location and they said that if we increase the height of the psv noise decrease to 105db

what do you think about this solution? Is it correct?

2- i think we have another problem about the  high noise in psv, dose this sound make problem in operating of psv and also make problem in material of psv due to erosion?

i see the noise calculation in api-521

in api the destination  of psv is atm

but those psv connected to flare network

dos it need to consider r the back pressure of flare for calculating the noise level?

Thanks a lot

mike

You need to check noise for PSV discharge to a closed system. The piping provides considerable attenuation of the noise.

as said (Bobby) make sure the values have been calculated for a closed system,

API formula estimates values for direct release (atm) which may be much higher.
