Hello ,

I want to design a scrubbing system for phosphine scrubbing

Inlet Phosphine Concentration is : 500 PPM

Outlet Phosphine Concentration should be less than 0.3 ppm

Gas flow rate: 25000 m3/hr i.e 7.08 m3/sec

Liquid to Gas flow has been Consider : 1.5 l/m3

Gas flow rate outlet duct is : 0.450 mt

I am thinking for Dual Scrubber 1.) Venturi 2.) Packed or Spray Scrubbing system

Can any one suggest me how to design a dual scrubber and what basis to be consider to design it .

Hello Shamir,

A few questions before we get started :

1. Phosphine is a highly toxic gas.

If you do not have experience in designing scrubbing systems, I would suggest taking the help of someone with experience in designing a toxic gas removal system.

2. Are you designing for the sake of learning, or is it for a project ?

If it is just for learning, we can help you out, but if it is for a firm project, then as advised earlier, take someone's help.

Also, basic designs can be done, and we can help you out, but there are certain proprietary parameters and internals, that only column suppliers like sulzer or Koch-Glitsch can help you out with. I have done packed column design myself, including the internals, based on scientific empirical data, but need to know if the design you are doing is for the sake of learning or application, so that you can model it accurately.

Regards,

Shantanu Kallakuri

Thanks shantanuk ,

I am designing it for a learning. After having design it will be cross checked by our management's expert.

In addition to that we have existing scrubber. In existing scrubber we are scrubbing phosphine with KmNo4 and it is a spray tower. The problem faced in existing scrubber vapour generation starts when some pariculate matter of aluminium PHOSPHIDE vet suck with gas in a scrubber. So I am thinking to design a new scrubber for it.

Please help me to design a scrubber .

Shamir ,

Pay attention , this material is toxic , flammable ,..... consider the MSDS attached .
