Dear All,

 

I am new to the topic and have a limited knowledge of simulating amine plants.

 

My questions are:

 

1- Is it possible to simulate the removal of sulfur traces in a direct contact cooler (with caustic/soda-ash addition to the water) using Aspen+ or HYSYS? (My concerns are about the pre-treatment of a flue gas before entering the absorber column)

 

2- Is there any guideline and software (maybe Aspen+) for sizing and simulating the direct contact cooler and the other two columns along with their internals?

 

As I said, I am new to the topic and any information would be helpful.

You will need to use an electrolyte model to do this accurately, either ELECNRTL or with OLI (which is an extra license).   Additionally, using a RATEFRAC block in Aspen Plus will provide better results, but requires more input knowledge.

So that, ASPEN Plus would provide accurate (enough) results. What about ProMax? I heard that it is more capable than ASPEN packages working with electrolyte models?

The Title of this topic is Amine CO2 Absorption, but I see no mention of CO2 in the inquiry.  It asks about the removal of Sulfur with caustic and not Amine.

 

The best software for CO2 and H2S removal is by Bryant Research & Engineering out of Bryant TX.

I would use Aspen Plus for the caustic wash column, using ELECNRTL as a starting point.  But you should check all the regression data against lab/published information to validate the binaries.
