How does the presence of a packed bed influence the heat transfer coefficient of a stream passing through it?

From my calculations, I am obtaining a significantly lower heat transfer coefficient than what I would obtain had the catalyst not be present. I cant determine if this is the way it should be.

If the packed bed has a very high  thermal conductivity, I can see how it could increase rather than decrease the heat transfer, however, because it alters the flow, maybe there is a trade of? I have very limited knowledge on the topic.

SP500,

Maybe, can you share your calculations or give the information for to do the calculations?

Napo.
