Hello all - I'm looking for some guidance on the required up and downstream pipe diameters for a restriction orifice that will not be used for any type of measurement. It is strictly to balance cooling water flow between two headers.

Thanks

The upstream and downstream straight length is provided for a flow orifice for accurate measurement of pressure.

In non flow measuring RO there is no such requirement.

You can also ask your Instrumentation department for the same.

I think what you are have mentioned is a restriction orifices to balance downstream pressure of two cooling water stream. This is an incompressible fluid service and hence volumetric flow upstream and downstream will not change. So you dont need a different diameter upstream and downstream of RO. Had this been a compressible fluid, situation would be different depending on critical pressure drop ration.
