The Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia has over 30 pages on sodium chloride including bibliography. If you ever travel near Grand Saline Texas, there is a nice little free salt museum inside a house made of salt blocks. I have visited the museum, but they no longer allow visitors inside the Morton mines there because there are too many lawyers.

Hi,

Try your favorite search engine and key in salt manufacturing flow chart .

Btw you don't tell us what is your raw material and from where you got it (mine , sea water ..).

To get tips you need to develop a simple PFD for us to understand your difficulties .

My understanding , initial step : you need to treat raw brine to remove calcium , magnesium using sodium carbonate and caustic soda or milk of lime (reactors in series , decanters in parallel (overflow purified brine , bottom mud to be disposed ) , based on my knowledge on soda ash process and operation .

next steps from James Speight :Chemical and process design handbook ( doc attached)

Evaporation (concentration MEE or MVR and Single effect )  , separation solid liquid ( centrifuge) , dryer , silo

last step addition of anticaking agent (cyanide solution a few ppm ) before packing

Good luck

Breizh
