# Calculation Of Heat Exchanger Tube Velocity

Dear Sir,

How do we calculate Tube Velocity in Heat Exchanger ?

Q=UADelta T lm , can we equate this to V/A: Velocity is V and Area is A

Wow !

Did you check what is written in your post ?

On one hand there is an equation which  is related to heat duty of the HX ( KW)  and on the other end  Qv = V*Section  (m3/s)

Dear Sir,

I am new to Process Design and I am from Refinery operational background wherein I monitor unit operations on daily basis only.

I want to know how to calculate Tube velocity ? What is the formula to be used ?

Hi,

The velocity in the tubes is the total flow rate divided by (the number of tubes * cross section of each tube) .

Let you study in depth the documents supplied , probably good for you to get a degree from Uni . Nothing wrong with your background but there is a long way to go.

Nowadays a lot of resources are available using google search or equivalent engine , same for videos using Youtube channel .

Hi,

No you cannot;

In a rough estimation, you can divide the volumetric flow rate passing through the tube side by the total cross sectional area of the tube side to find the tube side velocity.

Dear CHEMSTRONG,

Are you a ChE degree holder?  I suspect not.  IMHO, this question can be answered by most Freshman or Sophomore ChE students and by some high school students and graduates.  It's like you ask a question that pops into your head with no real thought, not opening a reference, or any study or work at all.  Please research your questions thoroughly before asking.

We have jobs!  Stop wasting our time.
