Hello everyone,

I am trying to find information about vapor balance in trucks.
What I have understood vapor balance line is a line that send vapor to a truck, when it empties. And it removes vapor from the truck, when the truck is filled in with a liquid.

Could you please share your experience with me?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Consider the document attached for the supply of Nh4OH solution by truck (method B, end of the handbook)

Note: Both, tank and truck are protected from over pressure and vacuum.

Hi,

Your understanding is what happens due to applying the vapor balance line in loading or unloading operation...

But the main concept behind using such line for vapor return is: in one hand to avoid vacuum creation in truck's tank and, on the other hand, to avoid pressurizing the tank to be loaded in loading operation and vice versa for unloading operation...

Hence, not being such line in loading/unloading operations can retard the loading/unloading rates or even may prevent the liquid movement during the operation...

A vapour balance line is a recommended practise, particularly from an environmental perspective (IED regulations, BREFs for EU & UK), as it inherently minimises any outbreathing from either tanker emptying or filling. One consideration to be wary off, when handling flammables or oxygen sensitive materials, is filling tankers will lead to air entering the storage.
