API Recommended Practice 14E, 5th Edition, Section 2, Pipe Design.

The pipe diameter is not checked; it is calculated.

If you don't have API then any book on fluids or Perry's Chemical Engineering Handbook will do. I'm sure there is even stuff on this in the Mechanical engineering handbooks.

Crane TP410 is a good reference to have.
