Hi friend,
would you please help me?
I want to simulate an absorber in sweetening unite.this absorber contains 2 part.
16 trays at top and then 4 meter mellapacked 250Y.
HOW can I introduce this column(tray+packed) to hysys?

your quick responce would be highly appreciated.
regards
rosa

cheers!!!

Dear friends,

have you ever done this kind of simulation?
I mean trays+packed in one column.

Hello Rosa,

Go to Tools/Utilities and select "Tray sizing" option. Choose the tower in your flowsheet that you want to size, add (define) two column sections - one for trays and other for packing. In the Design tab, from drop-down list find the packing type that matches your tower internals. You also must supply some additional data.

Hi all,

From mass and energy point of view there are no difference between trays and packing when you setting up your simulation. You should transfer real trays and packing into ideal stages.

Hi,
I have done it before(adding 2 section)tray+pack.but for packing section how many tray I should put instead of 4 meter packing?
can I say that 4 meter packing with tray spacing 0.6 meter equals to 7 tray?(4/0.6=7 tray) or not?

regards,
rosa

Hello Rosa,

It is not a question of dimension when trying to express packing as trays, but height equivalent to theoretical plate (HETP). You must determine how many ideal stages of separation you got from the packing and then use any number of trays (depending on efficiency!) which achieve the same degree of separation as this particular type of packing. It can be ANY number of trays - it depends only what efficiency % you will assign to them - the purpose is to retreive the same level of separation, compared to the packing operation.

I would prefer building a simulation model based on actual tower configuration.
