We are installing a new centrifugal compressor and the design is ongoing.

A proposal has come to keep the suction shutdown valve open during a Process Shutdown (realted with the compressor) in order to keep the compressor pressurised to the suction pressure, discharge valve will be closed. This will reduce the start-up time. However during an ESD the valve wil be closed and the system will be depressurised.

The suction consisits of a pipeline and slug catcher and therefore will not impact the suction pressure of other compressors fed from a common manifold.

I would like to know reference of any similar design and any possible issue by keeping the suction valve open.
