Hello, I'm a college student from Chile and I have to make my final paper based on HYSYS. I've been working on it for the past 5 months and considering I have no expirience on this subjects I'm kind of frustrated and stuck .
The title of my work is "Stationary & Dynamic Optimization of a Crude Oil Distillation Column"
The main objective is : Simulate a refinery's topping column in statyonary and dinamic state to be able to optimizate the produccion due to changes in the crude feed.
Secondary Objectives are: 1) Stationary simulation of a topping column. 2) Oil characterization using ASTM curves and cold properties. 3) Dynamic simulation of a topping column. 4) Optimization dynamic and stationary due to chanches in the feeds.
I've simulated a stationary case and characterized the oil. But i have specs using flows and that limitates what i can change in the feed and i cant get me simulation to work on all posible cases.
If any of you have any running simulation that i can use as example I would be for ever greatful
Hope u can help me

For dynamic CDU tower simulation there is one sample tutorial file available in HYSYS (it is titled "dyncrude3"). You can look at it and see how it is done, and see how basic control loops are configured in this particular example. Tower control philosophy - coupled with optimization targets and constraints - is of crucial importance in setting up optimization approach. Have a look at these articles published by AspenTech/Petrocontrol:
Integration for Innovation
Crude Unit Control System
Model-Based Control of Crude Product Qualities
As far as steady-state simulation is concerned, you can't do much - apart from switching crude types, introducing various blends, and watching how it reflects on tower operation. In general, steady-state simulations are there to show you where unit boundaries/constraints are met, regarding tower hydraulic capacity, heat removal capacity, heater duties etc. Once when you set the limits of the CDU operating envelope, you can switch to dynamic modeling and see how changes in the crude feedstock, temperature, product draw-offs, affect plant performance and stability.
