Have recently discussed overflows on tanks. Sometimes they are are sealed with a seal pot or a bursting disc. Does anybody have experience of bursting pressures for these. For example with a tank rated for 56 mbarg equipped with conservation valve and emergency relief on manway, how deep would the overflow be sealed, or at what pressure should a burting diac on the overflow rupture at..

Liquid seals will always be cheaper than a bursting disk. However, a busting disk would be used in say, a bio/pharm plant where the liquid seal is a sourse of microbial buildup becuase it is stagnant. So, for the model you describe, the bursting disk is used instead and the bursting presusre is nominal. It should be only what it takes to protect the vessel from overflow. For instance, if you have a 20' vessel and the overflow at 18', then you would typcially only allow a few inches of liquid head above the overflow before you would want the disk to burst.
