When designing the overpressure protection for a floating roof tank does gas breakthrough leading to potential floating roof topple need to be considered? Surely in a gas breakthrough scenario the gas will dissolve in the condensate and the roof will go up to prevent overpressure.

API 650 / 2000 do not provide much info for floating roof tanks.

The main concern is a breakthrough case for upstream stabiliser coulumns in which the floating roof could topple and sink into the tank.

Thanks

ChemEng01,

The gas breakthrough could be a credible over pressure scenario in atmospheric tanks, either to be fixed roof type or floating roof type...

Then adequate venting facility should be provided for tank protection if such scenario is credible...
