Hi all,

I am Operations Engineer, working under Utilities & Sulfur Complex facilities. I have Demineralization Plant with the arrangement, ACF->Cation->Anion->Mixed Bed vessel, with the capacity of 140 m3/hr; the problem is we experienced resin loss to Pit, during regeneration process.

I am wonder whether you guys have a method/s on how to measure how much anion & cation ion exchange loss in the Mixed Bed. The resin is only 1 yr old. I think by pursuing with total change-out is not that economical + wise to do so. I was thinking of manually check by, backwash and/or air scour -> let them settle and open the manhole and manually check the level of each resins?

Do you guys have any ideas/experience to share?

Thanks

Hameran

Dear Mr Mhameran,

You need to instal a resin trap in your system. Also look for any fines in your resin bed. Please check with your plant supplier.

Dear Mr Mhameran,

One way to find out the amount of resins present in the bed is to know the quantities of acid and caustic needed to regenerate the resins after exhaustion and separation. From the quantities of acids and alakli used for regeneration, the quantities of resins in the bed can be calculated. If you have the quantities of resins loaded initially, the difference would give the loss.
