Hi all,

I was wondering how Perry's ChemEng Handbook calculated the enthalpy of moist air at the bulk water temperature in the attached table?  I have been trying to duplicate the results but to no avail.

Thank you.

Hi,

I think you are confused about hw value. Well let me tell you while calculating cooling tower characteristic, you get two curves on graph. X-axis is temperature and y is enthalpy. First curve is the straight line with L/G slope and that is called air saturation curve. In your case two fixed points of this line have come out to  be 41.58 & 60.98 btu/lb at 85 and 105 F temperature respectively. Now come the water saturation curve which will be above the air saturation curve. You have found out corresponding temperarure values so at these temperatures 100% saturation line in psycrometric chart (High temp) will give you enthalpy value.

For better understanding you can refer to below mentioned link.

Hope it helps.

Thanks
