Hello,

I have the below query.

During tanker or rail wagon unloading of a chemical, how to choose between use of flexible hose and unloading arm? Both have some advantages and drawbacks.

As a process engineer, what are the aspects shall be considered while choosing for unloading system.

PESA ,

Safety should be your main concern regarding unloading !

Not knowing anything about your chemical it's impossible to give you a proper answer .

Note : If you select flexible hose make sure they are rated for Pressure , Temperature and of course Chemical .

Hope this helps.

PESA,

Loading arm would provide easy operation (no need to lift heavy hoses) and greater safety for operator; but flexible hose is subject to rupture....

Loading arm will provide faster transfer rates by larger diameter; the matter can't be achieved with flexible hoses...

Loading arm will provide more reliability and durability, lower maintenance, longer life and minimum spillage waste...

Flexible hose is more flexible but is subject to wear out due to weather exposure...

Then for hazardous materials which should be transferred in relatively high rate the loading arm would be best choice...
