Hello all,

I hope to get some suggestions from you all. I handle Cryogenic Ethylene liquid. Ethylene liquid is vaporized using methanol vaporizing system. Ethylene is being unloaded into our storage tank by ship. After every shipment we face decrease in level of methanol in methanol vapourizer.

Methanol is used in 3 heat exchangers.

One- to vaporize ethylene liquid,

Two- to superheat the vapourized ethylene vapours

Three - to heat the Boil off gas from the storage tank (Boil off gas is compressed and sent to downstream plant along with ethylene vapours from vapouriser)

Here, No leak in methanol system is found.
Pressure of ethylene is higher than methanol pressure in 1 and 2 Heat exchangers. So methanol wont escape into 1 or 2 Heat exchanger, if there is leak in bundle of HE.

Only suspect is heat exchanger 3. But even if there is a leak inside, why level decreases only after shipement.

Please enlighten me.

If any one is interested to answer, Ill share system running parameters too.

Ill share system running parameters too.

Not sure what you mean by that.

One or more P&ID's showing the whole methanol system would however be required.

1. It will happen when the shipment procedure is running because  at that time there is a peak of pressure.

2. Detecting a leak in the methanol system  has to be done by pressure test when i could be possible to do

3.  Just to be sure, make a Methanol analysis to the ethylene after the shipment

4.  A P/ID will be useful to understand the process
