Dear Experts

Greetings from me

We are Looking for Shell & Tube type Heat Exchanger

More specifically We are looking  a condenser similar to the vertical tube & shell WSA Condenser.

We have a gas scrubber application where we want to cool 75 g/m3 of 98% Sulphuric Acid at 300 deg C from 4000 m3/h of ambient Air down to 40 deg C. I believe the air will absorb some of that heat so will be in the high 200s deg C overall.

We are not so concerned about sulphur recovery – and the amounts are very small. It is more to simply cool the air/sulphuric acid mix down to a 40  deg C temperature – or perhaps close to 100 deg C is sufficient.

Very Important :- Also We want to know the Pressure drop in shell as well as in Tube for air blown 4000 m3/h.The pressure drop has to be very very minimal

Now the heat transfer area needs to be big due to air flow rate you are also suggest if we can attach two Shell & Tube heat exchanger together

Kindly suggest me the best Heat Transfer area for this and also let me know for the given data what should be the water flow rate in shell and what kind of water will be preferred

Please help me for the same.

Thanks

Vikas Gupta

What is a WSA Condenser and does it have to be vertical?

Please put this in the form of a specification sheet.

Dear Sir,

Well we are looking for Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger bcoz condensor will not work in this .

Following are the points

A) We need to cool 75 g/m3 of 98% Sulphuric Acid at 300 deg C from 4000 m3/h of ambient Air down to 40 deg C

B ) So Flow rate of Ambient Air in Tube :- 4000m3/hr

C) Tube inlet temperature :- 300 deg C

D) Outcome temperature needed :- 40deg C

E) HTA - we defined as 50 meter square ( 2 Glass Shell& Tube of 25 meter square attached vertically)

Now we need to know

A) Pressure Drop in Tube ?

B ) Pressure drop in Shell ?

C) What should be  flow rate of water  in shell ?

D) Temperature of Water when it is out

Can you please let me know and suggest.

Thanks

On point E, what is HTA? Also there is heat exchanger surface ? Where did that come from ?

Hi vikas

i also have few questions from your info;

1. What is "75 g/m3 of 98% Sulphuric Acid"? is it the solution in water? Many of us are not in the chemical business. please clearly identify.

2. What is your ambient temperature? if it is close to 40 degC as you require the temp outlet, shell and tube maybe not proper for this sevice.

Note: Showing us a simplified diagram leads people more clearly understand.

Vikas

Your information is not complete.

Please clarify the below items:

1- What is the flow rate of Sulfuric acid solution?

2- what is the expected outlet of sulfuric acid? is it 40 C?

3- What is the temperature of ambient air?

4- Do you want to condense the vapor?

Please explain enough in simple words and let me have a flow diagram of your process to help.

Hi,

Why don't you make simple sketch with 2 inlet & 2 outlet streams and specify data like Flow, Pressure, temperature, vapor fraction etc. This is will give clear idea to users. What is basis of selecting 50 sqm. surface area. Please keep in mind when dealing with heat exchanger design, there are two aspects,

1. thermal design (estimation of overall heat transfer coefficient, MTD, heat transfer area to meet the desired duty) &

2. Hydraulic design (pressure drop which will help in deciding the optimum configuration)

Hope you provide above details.
