hello

i am m.tech student in peocess equipment design. i want to know how to calculate the diameter of shell-side and tube-side nozzle for shell-and-tube heat exchanger, because calculation of shell-side and tube-side pressure drop accounts for pressure drop in nozzles too. the pressure drop through nozzle depends upon the fluid velocity through nozzle and which depends on diameter of nozzle. can any one give guidelines plz

Anil,
Besides raw pressure drop, there is often a concern over the fluid's momentum upon entering the exchanger. Fluid impingement on the tubes can lead to unacceptable erosion. This may be handled by impingement plates, but limiting momentum - e.g. the rho * V^2 term - is also a common practice.
