I am simulating a process using hysys 3.2 where acetaldehyde is produced by reaction between ethanol and air. The components involved are :
- Ethanol
- Water
- Nitrogen
- Oxygen
- Acetaldehyde
Both liquid and gaseous phases are involved in this process. But I'm not sure which fluid package I should use. One of my teachers suggested me to use UNIQUAC while another teacher suggested to use Wilson.
Can anyone help me by suggesting a proper fluid package for this process ?

Hi Shaikat ,
NRTL also gives pretty good results for Acetaldehyde containing systems, But any way don’t just decide based on somebody’s input. Try to compare some data generated by simulator with some real experimental data available in literature, and then you can decide. This is one way to get some good results. I Suggest to use Aspen plus for this rather than Hysys .Good luck

Use NRTL for this system.
Wilson is NOT applicable as it is used for completely miscible systems. Ethanol/water/Aldehyde is not completely miscible system. In addition, water is polar while Wilson is applicable for Non-polar solvents.
You can compare results with UNIQUAC.
Best regards.
